A Drivers Education Update:
The tentative date for the Governor to allow the Illinois Secretary of State offices and Drivers Services facilities to open is June 2, 2020. This means that your student will not be able to obtain a Illinois Driver’s License or a white slip until this date. In regards to completing the 6 hour behind the wheel portion of Drivers Education that many students still need to complete, the Governor’s office and the Illinois State Board of Education has not released a tentative date to resume this portion of the Driver’s Education Class. Rest assured, we will get back to our behind the wheel training as soon as possible so that our students can obtain one of the things they look forward to the most about high school - their driver’s license. If there are any updates, I will let you know as quickly as I get them.
Wednesday, May 6, will be the last day to purchase a yearbook. If this is something you’d rather pay for with cash or a check, please email Ms Bean.
So many things got canceled this year, but the Talon staff is still still putting together a great yearbook!

I just wanted to pass along some information about Parent Connect. In the past, elementary hasn’t used this tool very much. The way grading is done in the lower classes especially, made it not very useful for our age group. However, now that final grades will be available via Parent Connect, I have printed every student’s login and password information for you. It will be handed out the day that is scheduled for your child’s pick up/drop off by the teacher with their belongings. Thank you,
Ms. Tami
All Sports equipment can be turned in on the same schedule as books. Currently as per the IHSA there are no summer contact days. If workout days are approved for later summer your coach will let you know.

Just a reminder about kindergarten registration:
May 7th and 8th was supposed to be our kindergarten screenings/registration. Due to the current circumstances we cannot have the actual screening at this time. However, the kindergarten teachers will be calling people on these dates to get registration information so that your child will be on the list for the fall school year. If you already had made an appointment with me when we were still at school, you will be on the list for a phone call. If you hadn’t made an appointment yet, please send me a message on this GCES page with your name, your child’s name, and your phone number and you will be added to the list to receive a call on May 7th or 8th. Thank you, Ms. Tami

I have had several phone calls in regards to the kindergarten screenings we were holding on May 7 and May 8. At this time, we will not be able to have people in the school to actually screen the students. However, on these days we will be having our kindergarten teachers and our school nurses calling the parents that have already signed up for appointments. They will be getting the information that we need for our registration cards to be completed. This will help us to know our numbers for this grade level. At some point if restrictions are lifted, we may still try to have a day for screening the students. If you have a child going into kindergarten and have not contacted us for an appointment, please call the school as soon as possible. We will get you on the list for the registration call! Just a reminder: we are encouraging as many as possible to have students do their work via E-learning. However, if you do not have access to a computer or internet and need a paper packet, please contact me at (618) 272-3821 ext 1301 or tlogsdon@gallatincusd7.com. You will need to contact me each time a new packet goes out. They do not get sent automatically. Also, please let me know which bus to send it with. I am not currently working at the school I am taking calls at home so please allow enough time for me to get to the school and get your packet sent. Some of the elementary teachers have sent packet work to get through the entire month of April and others are sending one week at a time. So make sure you look at your pacing guide. This will let you know how long their work packet should last. Thank you and stay healthy!! I miss everyone 🧡💙
